BRB 1012 - History of Barbering

Course Description:
Provides an understanding and appreciation of the accomplishments, evolution, and position of leadership obtained by the early practitioners of barbering. Students will also learn the cultural, esthetic, and technical heritage developed, providing the basis for the prestige and respect of the profession and its services today.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the evolution of barbering from ancient times to the present.
  2. Explain the origin of the barber pole.
  3. Identify and describe the organizations responsible for the upgrading of the barber profession.
  4. Be able to describe and discuss barber-surgeons.
  5. Describe the importance and functions of state boards.
