CRMJ 1301 - Correctional Counseling

Course Description:
This course introduces students to the role of the correctional counselor. It defines the goals and methods, as well as the theories associated with institutional counseling. It also exposes students to the different issues associated with different offender typologies.

Student will be able to:

Demonstrate an understanding of the role of the correctional counselor and the legal, ethical, and cross-cultural issues that correctional counselors face.
Demonstrate an understanding of the various initial procedures and techniques of a correctional counselor with an offender.
Demonstrate an understanding of the common theoretical counseling perspectives.
Demonstrate an understanding of the special issues surrounding the various types of counseling and therapy sessions.
