Course Description: Provides instruction in the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of mechanical equipment common to all manufacturing, commercial and industrial facilities.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Applies proper techniques for safely installing, maintaining and troubleshooting belt drive systems.
- Applies proper techniques for safely installing, maintaining and troubleshooting chain drive systems
- Applies proper techniques for safely installing, maintaining and troubleshooting gear drive systems
- Knowledgeable of the preventive maintenance tasks for ensuring belts, chain and gear systems work properly to prevent unnecessary downtime.
- Understands the causes and symptoms of bearing failure.
- Knows the proper procedures for the removal and installation of bearings.
- Utilizes various measuring tools such as tachometers, micrometers, dial indicators and calipers.
- Installs multi-shaft systems properly using proper alignment techniques.
- Understands and applies proper lubrication methods.
- Understands the uses and proper installation of seals and packing.
- Understands the proper and safe techniques for rigging and installing mechanical equipment.
- Understands the uses and proper selection of fasteners.
