IEM 2010 - Mechanical Maintenance

Course Description:
Provides instruction in the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of mechanical equipment common to all manufacturing, commercial and industrial facilities. 

Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Applies proper techniques for safely installing, maintaining and troubleshooting belt drive systems.
  2. Applies proper techniques for safely installing, maintaining and troubleshooting chain drive systems
  3. Applies proper techniques for safely installing, maintaining and troubleshooting gear drive systems
  4. Knowledgeable of the preventive maintenance tasks for ensuring belts, chain and gear systems work properly to prevent unnecessary downtime.
  5. Understands the causes and symptoms of bearing failure.
  6. Knows the proper procedures for the removal and installation of bearings.
  7. Utilizes various measuring tools such as tachometers, micrometers, dial indicators and calipers. 
  8. Installs multi-shaft systems properly using proper alignment techniques.
  9. Understands and applies proper lubrication methods.
  10. Understands the uses and proper installation of seals and packing.
  11. Understands the proper and safe techniques for rigging and installing mechanical equipment.
  12. Understands the uses and proper selection of fasteners.
