IEM 4030 - Programmable Logic Controllers

Clock Hours: 202

Delivery Mode
on-ground

Course Description:
Provides instruction on programmable logic controllers, their input and output capabilities and how PLCs are programmed. The student writes various programs, wires devices to inputs and outputs and tests the functionality of the programs that are written. Several different models and brands of PLCs are used for the instruction in order that the student is able to transition their basic knowledge to whatever equipment their employer might utilize.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion the student will understand and apply the principles of:

  1. PLC components and their function.
  2. Programming software and communications with the PLC
  3. Number systems, codes, and conversion between different systems.
  4. Input and Output devices, Motor Controls
  5. Creating relay logic diagrams and the 9 rules
  6. Basic programming commands, rungs and rung branches, scan times, saving and retrieving programs, and data files
  7. Programming logic gate functions in PLCs
  8. PLC timer instructions
  9. PLC counter instructions
  10. PLC math instructions
  11. PLC compare instructions
  12. PLC jump instructions
  13. PLC subroutine instructions
