IEM 5030 - Advanced Manufacturing Troubleshooting

Course Description:
Provides instruction on troubleshooting methods to identify the location of faults in hydraulic, pneumatic, safety system and PLCs, electrical control systems and PLCs of complex machinery. Includes system blueprint reading and wire tracing throughout the system based upon the system prints.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion student will understand and be able to apply the principles of:

  1. System blueprint reading for electrical and fluid power
  2. Trace wires using blueprints and wire numbers
  3. Industrial networking, IP addressing, communications, and remote I/O
  4. System troubleshooting using a PC to monitor the PLC
  5. Understanding and troubleshooting safety controllers, safety relays, interlocks, estops, and light curtains
  6. System troubleshooting by observing PLC input and output indicators
  7. Troubleshooting optical and prox sensor
  8. Troubleshoot three phase motors, hydraulic motors, hydraulic power units and roller conveyor systems
  9. Finding reference material and specifications for various system components
  10. Robot programming and interfacing into a manufacturing system
