IEM 5070 - Advanced Robotics

Prerequisites: IEM 4040  

Course Description:
Provide instruction in advanced functions and maintenance procedures for a Fanuc robot and perform advanced programming concepts to utilize the robot in complex applications.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion the student will understand and have the ability to:

  1. Explain Fanuc Motion Instructions
  2. Write Fanuc Robot Programs to Perform Specified Tasks
  3. Explain PLC Control of Fanuc Robot
  4. Demonstrate Basic Fanuc Robot Operations per instruction
  5. Know the priority order for maintaining safety
  6. Understand the safe perimeters of the work envelope, restricted area and operating area  
  7. Know where all hard stops, limiting devices and axis limits are located
  8. Understand the dual safety check system operation
  9. Locate where all  services are that could require “Lockout/Tagout”
  10. Locate all emergency stops and understand the procedures
  11. Demonstrate loading and executing a Fanuc robot  program
  12. Program robot I/O to handshake with a PLC controlling a machine, which the robot is associated.
  13. Use program calls to perform separate operations within a complex robot program.
  14. Demonstrate proper backup battery changing method to maintain the servo motors zero reference so as not to require remastering the robot.
  15. Explain the proper procedure to remaster the robot.
