IEM 5070 - Advanced Robotics

Prerequisites: IEM 4040
Course Description: Provide instruction in advanced functions and maintenance procedures for a Fanuc robot and perform advanced programming concepts to utilize the robot in complex applications.
Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion the student will understand and have the ability to:
- Explain Fanuc Motion Instructions
- Write Fanuc Robot Programs to Perform Specified Tasks
- Explain PLC Control of Fanuc Robot
- Demonstrate Basic Fanuc Robot Operations per instruction
- Know the priority order for maintaining safety
- Understand the safe perimeters of the work envelope, restricted area and operating area
- Know where all hard stops, limiting devices and axis limits are located
- Understand the dual safety check system operation
- Locate where all services are that could require “Lockout/Tagout”
- Locate all emergency stops and understand the procedures
- Demonstrate loading and executing a Fanuc robot program
- Program robot I/O to handshake with a PLC controlling a machine, which the robot is associated.
- Use program calls to perform separate operations within a complex robot program.
- Demonstrate proper backup battery changing method to maintain the servo motors zero reference so as not to require remastering the robot.
- Explain the proper procedure to remaster the robot.
