IMA 3030 - Hydraulics Controls and Devices

Clock Hours: 154

Delivery Mode
on-ground

Prerequisites: IMA 3020, Fluid Power Basics

Course Description:
Provides instruction devices used and control of devices in hydraulic systems. Students use software test and build hydraulic circuits before installing on trainers. Students learn to install and troubleshoot hydraulic circuits. Instruction is provided through demonstrations, videos, hands on, software and lectures.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Course Competencies:

  1. Connect hydraulic power unit.
  2. Operate pressure control vales in a hydraulic system.
  3. Design circuit to explain the working relationship between a pressure relief valve and a flow control valve.
  4. Operate different types of hydraulic actuators.
  5. Design, install, and operate hydraulic circuits using limit switches.
  6. Design, install, and operate a single acting cylinder using directional control valves, flow control valves and pressure control valves.
  7. Design, install, and operate a double acting cylinder using directional control valves, flow control valves and pressure control valves.
  8. Design, install, and operate a double acting cylinder using directional control valves, flow control valves, pilot operated check valve and pressure control valves.
  9. Design, install, and operate a double acting cylinder using DCV with an open center, flow control valves and pressure control valves to explain cylinder creep.
  10. Design a circuit to correct cylinder creep.
  11. Design, install, and operate a bi-directional hydraulic motor using directional control valves, flow control valves and pressure control valves.
  12. Design, install, and operate a circuit to explain a pressure compensated flow control valve.
  13. Design, install, and operate a double acting cylinder using directional control valves, flow control valves and pressure control valves to explain regeneration.
  14. Design, install, and operate a double acting cylinder using directional control valves, flow control valves and pressure control valves to pressure intensification.
  15. Design, install, and operate a double acting cylinder using directional control valves, flow control valves and pressure control valves to explain a counterbalance valve.
  16. Identify symbols for devices used in hydraulic circuits and explain their operation.
