Course Description: The goal of the course is to teach the student how to operate, adjust, and troubleshoot electronic components, circuits, and systems used in industrial applications.
Student Learning Outcomes: Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of:
- Introduction to Oscilloscopes
- Describe the function and operation of an oscilloscope.
- Demonstrate the use of an oscilloscope.
- Linear Power Supplies and Electronic Components
- Describe how to select a power supply.
- Describe the operation and function of a AC and a DC power supply.
- Describe the operation of a PN junction diode.
- Demonstrate How to test a PN junction diode.
- Describe the operation and demonstrate how to test a half-wave rectifier.
- Describe the operation and demonstrate how to test a full-wave rectifier.
- Describe the operation and demonstrate how to test the output of a current limiter.
- Describe the operation of a bipolar transistor and how to test them.
- Describe the operation and demonstrate how to test a solid state relay.
- Select a solid state relay for a given application.
- Describe and demonstrate the use of Inductive proximity, capacitive proximity, photoelectric, and hall effect sensors.
- Describe the function a thermocouple.
- Select and install a thermocouple for a given application.
