Course Description: The goal of the course is to teach the student an accelerated portion of the machine tool course. This will make a well-rounded technician.
Student Learning Outcomes: Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of:
- Machine Shop Safety
- Describe and understand proper dress for safety in the machine shop.
- Define and understand the major dangers in the machine shop.
- Blue Print Reading
- Correctly read and interpret mechanical drawings.
- Draw mechanical drawings and sketches.
- Measuring Tools
- Learn and demonstrate the use of fractional and decimal scales.
- Learn and demonstrate the use of micrometers.
- Learn and demonstrate the use of Vernier calipers.
- Power saw
- Identify the different types of metal saws.
- Set-up and operate a power hacksaw.
- Lathe
- Describe and identify the parts of a lathe and its accessories.
- Sharpen cutting tools for the lathe.
- Calculate the cutting speeds, feed rate and cut depths.
- Demonstrate the turning of diameters and steps.
- Milling Machine
- Describe and identify the parts of a milling machine and its accessories.
- Demonstrate the set-up and operation of the milling machine.
- Calculate the cutting speeds, feed rate and cut depths.
- Properly use the different mill cutters, end mills, fly cutters, face mills, and boring bars.
- Surface Grinder
- Demonstrate the set-up and operation of a surface grinder.
