AVI 3030 - Aircraft and Avionics Systems

Course Description:
In this subject area, the student will study a basic aircraft with respect to electrical power generation, heating, cooling, pressurization, instrumentation, fuel, fire protection, and pneumatic systems. In addition to this, the student will study navigation and instrument landing systems. Emphasis will be place on VOR, ILS, and GPS systems.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of avionics indicators
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the theory and maintenance of aircraft batteries
  • Explain theory of power distribution systems with respect to aircraft
  • Perform maintenance of aircraft power distribution systems
  • Perform maintenance on aircraft generators
  • Perform maintenance on alternators and inverters
  • Demonstrate knowledge of avionics data busses
  • Demonstrate knowledge of TCAS systems
  • Demonstrate knowledge of GPWS systems
  • Demonstrate knowledge of basic VOR systems
  • Demonstrate knowledge of a typical glide-slope localizer and marker beacon system
  • Perform a check of the ILS system
  • Demonstrate knowledge of GPS operation
  • Perform a check and test of VOR
