Course Description:
In this subject area, the student will study the requirements for obtaining the General Radio Operators License and Ships Radar Endorsement. There will be an overview of electrical and electronic systems and components, as well as aircraft radar systems. Also covered in this area of study, will be resume writing, and interview techniques.

Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of:

  • Describe the history of radio regulation
  • Identify the requirements for obtaining an FCC license
  • Identify time limits of FCC licenses
  • Describe the elements of the FCC GROL exam
  • Describe Maritime Radio Law and operating practices
  • Define and explain radio wave propagation
  • Describe various electrical principles
  • Identify circuit components and their operation
  • Describe operation of practical circuits
  • Identify and describe signals and emissions
  • Explain operation of antennas and feed lines
  • Define GMDSS and IMO
  • Define the term RADAR
  • Identify different types of radar and explain the operation of each
  • Identify various components in a radar block diagram
  • Describe the advantages and disadvantages of each type of radar 
  • Prepare to take the FCC General Radio Operators License Exam and Ships Radar Endorsement Exam
