RESP 2230 - Introduction to Critical Care

Prerequisites: Successful advancement from the previous semester.

Course Description:
Introduction to Critical Care introduces the student to the critical care environment. Students will continue to develop those skills learned in prior clinical courses with the addition of airway management techniques and arterial blood gas punctures. 16 hrs. Clinical/wk.

Students will be able to:

Demonstrate competency in the performance of endotracheal suctioning.
Assist with the intubation of patients to include an evaluation of proper tube placement and tube security.
Demonstrate competency in the extubation of patients.
Demonstrate correct technique in the performance of arterial punctures.
