IMA 1055 - Meters and Measuring Equipment

Course Description:
Provides instruction in the use and operation of meters and measuring equipment through the course. Meters and measuring equipment are used throughout the course.  Instruction is provided through lecture, videos, demonstration and hands-on exercises.

  1. Recognize how AC meters are constructed.
  2. Identify a multiplying resistor and its purpose.
  3. Identify a shunt resistor and its purpose.
  4. Perform resistance readings with an analog meter.
  5. Perform voltage readings with an analog meter.
  6. Perform current readings with an analog meter.
  7. Perform resistance readings with a digital meter.
  8. Perform voltage readings with a digital meter.
  9. Perform current readings with a digital meter.
  10. Identify a Wheatstone bridge circuit.
  11. Choose correct settings on multi-meters.
  12. Identify the four categories of meters in accordance with NFPA 70E.
  13. Identify rules to safely use a meter as outlined in NFPA70E.
  14. Recognize and have knowledge of the causes of Arc Flash.
  15. Perform meter maintenance and show safe working habits while the meters are in use.
  16. Use clamp-on AC amp meter.
