FSED 1060 - Mortuary Law and Ethics

Prerequisites: Admission to the AAS/FSED program.

Course Description:
This course introduces legal and ethical issues in the funeral service profession. This includes the sources of business law, mortuary law, rights and duties regarding disposition of dead bodies, state and federal regulation of funeral homes, funeral directors and cemeteries, probate law, and funeral professional ethics.

the basic principles of business law.
the inter-relationship of business law and funeral service law.
the legal duties and responsibilities of the funeral service practitioner and the funeral establishment.
the ethical and moral duties and responsibilities to the deceased, their family, and the public.
