PHT 1015 - Top Drugs I

Course Description:
This course orients drugs to the most commonly used drugs in the United States. Students will prepare drug cards containing information about each medication, and will use this information to identify which health issues affect the population, and will understand drug classifications and indications.

Course Competencies:

  1. Demonstrate ability to use appropriate drug reference materials.
  2. Identify medications by both brand (trade) and generic names.
  3. Identify medications by drug classification and indications.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge of controlled substances as indicated by DEA regulations and/or state boards of pharmacy.
  5. Identify proper medication storage conditions.
  6. Identify mechanism of action, interactions, contraindications, and side effects for medications covered in the course.
