Course Description:
Electrical connections that provide maximum conductivity are an essential part of every circuit. Manufacturers have recognized and developed a variety of wiring devices that ensure safe and reliable installations. This course will introduce students to soldering and various type of wiring connectors.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Students will be able to:

  1. Basic Soldering Techniques
    1. Identify different types of solder
    2. Identify different types of flux.
    3. Select the correct soldering iron for a particular task.
    4. State the proper method of wire preparation for soldering.
    5. Identify different types of wire terminals and their connection methods.
    6. Reemphasize the methods for making reliable solder connections.
    7. Describe how to correct poorly constructed solder connections.
  2. Basic Connector and Terminal Techniques
    1. Identify standard wire gauges.
    2. llustrate the common types of wire and cable.
    3. Introduce the typical uses of common wire and cable types.
    4. Introduce the student to basic connector termination techniques.
    5. Illustrate the correct method of terminating banana plugs, crimp connectors and BNC connectors.
    6. Develop the skills required to effect routine repairs to electronic equipment.
  3. Assembler projects
    1. Demonstrate the ability to solder, assemble, and identify components and repair  problems with proper technique.
