Program Description

Early Childhood Education prepares students to teach and care for children in a daycare or preschool setting. The goal of this program is to provide students with thorough academic instruction to gain the education necessary to become an assistant or, in some cases, a lead teacher in child care programs. Each student will gain knowledge while covering a variety of subject areas. They will also gain valuable practical experience working directly with young children. With the increasing demand for quality child care, this program gives students the opportunity to successfully enter a growing profession. This program satisfies the educational requirements for the nationally recognized CDA credential.

Program Outcomes:

At the completion of the diploma level, graduates will have satisfied the educational requirements for the CDA credential and will have the opportunity to complete that process once employed. Students are prepared for initial employment at private centers, state centers, Head Starts, family daycares, and church-based centers.

Professional Accrediting Body:

Council for Professional Recognition - CDA credential for individuals

National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) - Center accreditation

State Agency/Entity Oversight

Department of Human Services - Center Licensing
