Program Description:

The Healthcare Technician Program is designed for students pursuing a career in the medical field who desire added certifications to enable them to enter the job market equipped with multiple skills. Students in this program will focus on the objectives required to become certified as Clinical Medical Assistants, EKG Technicians and Phlebotomy Technicians. Students who complete the program will work in hospital, clinic and home healthcare settings.

 

Program Outcomes:

Students will be able to:

  • Sit for the NHA Phlebotomy Technician Certification Exam
  • Sit for the EKG Technician Certification Exam
  • Sit for the Clinical Medical Assistant Certification Exam
  • Sit for other certification exams based on the elective courses the student enrolls in such as the Certified Nursing Assist Certification Exam.

The above certifications are the only certifications that the Healthcare Technician core courses address. Other certifications may be obtained depending on what courses are taken for the electives. For example, The CNA courses are not a specific requirement for the Healthcare Certificate program, but if a student takes the CNA courses to meet the elective requirements, they will be eligible to sit for the CNA licensure exam. We hope to add additional healthcare related courses in the future that will meet the elective requirements, such as IV Tech, Pharmacy Tech, etc.

General Education Requirements*


No General Education courses are required.

*All General Education Courses must be chosen from a campus-approved list.

Students are required to be “college ready” before they are allowed to take any of the Healthcare Technician core courses. This means that students have met placement standards or addressed Learning Support competencies prior to enrollment in the certificate program. Students who take the CNA elective courses are not required to be college ready, but they are encouraged to take the necessary learning support courses/labs while enrolled in the CNA courses in order to be prepared to move into the core Healthcare technician courses the following semester.
