Program Description:
The Masonry program is composed of three major segments: Block, Brick, and Stone Laying. The first trimester covers the basic skills required to be an effective block, brick, or stone mason. The second trimester provides training and practical experience in laying various types and sizes of block. The third trimester is focused on brick laying techniques. Lastly, the fourth trimester will prepare the student for stone masonry.
Program Outcomes:
- Students will develop proper safety practices and desirable attitudes such as good morals and personal characteristics essential to job success.
- Successful completion of the first trimester will be the first exit point earning a “Bricklayer’s Helper” certificate.
- The focus of the second trimester is laying block. Logically, this skill is needed in most building projects. Successful completion of the second trimester will earn a “Blocklayer” certificate.
- The third trimester student has the option of choosing to work toward a “Bricklayer” diploma or a “Stone Mason” diploma. Upon successful completion of the third trimester, the student may pursue the second degree in the fourth trimester.
