Program Description:

The Medical Office Information Technology program prepares students to enter healthcare facilities such as hospitals, and doctor, dental, or chiropractic offices in a variety of positions. The program prepares students to be multi-skilled with knowledge of insurance codes for diagnoses and procedures, medical billing practices demonstrated with the Medisoft software, data entry for electronic health records and medical office administration skills. The program is self-paced with a blend of classroom theory and hands-on computer laboratory training that enables students to meet the requirements of entry-level medical information management. At the end of the four-month training in the classroom, students progress to a five-week, 200 hour externship where they demonstrate their ability to work in a medical environment.

Program Outcomes:

This program is designed to provide the classroom work/activities and the Externship experience necessary to develop the skills required for employment in an entry-level medical environment. Upon completion of this program the graduate is encouraged to sit for the National Healthcareer Certification exam for Electronic Health Records and the exam for Medical Administrative Office Assistant and Billing and Coding Specialist.
