Program Description:   The Aviation Technology program will focus on preparing students to enter the workforce as authorized inspectors, aircraft maintenance and repair technicians.  The course work will utilize and integrate existing general education courses at Northeast State with existing aviation maintenance and repair courses. This minimizes the need to increase faculty and expand facilities. Professional courses include aviation weather, aviation safety, regulations and legal issues, power plant instrumentation, engine fire protection systems, aircraft engines, aircraft electrical systems, airframe structures, power plant systems, advanced aircraft operations, and aircraft inspections.

Program Outcomes: To graduate aviation professionals who can immediately be employed into commercial aviation inspector, maintenance, and technician positions: 

  • Students will have satisfactorily completed the Federal Aviation Administration’s written exams required for the FAA Airframe and Powerplant Certificate. 
  • Students will be prepared to take the Federal Aviation Administration’s oral and practical evaluations required for the FAA Airframe and Powerplant Certificate.
  • Students will have satisfactorily completed the specific and general academic requirements of the program

Applicable Certification/License or Industry-recognized Certificates to Be Awarded: if applicable

Articulation with Tennessee Colleges of Applied Technology (TCAT):  Tennessee Center of Applied Technology-Morristown, TN students who have successfully completed the Aviation Maintenance Technology program and have earned a Federal Aviation Administration Airframe and Powerplant license are eligible to apply for the Northeast State Associate of Applied Science degree in Aviation Technology.

  • one course from the category of Social/Behavioral Sciences (3 hours)
  • one course from either Natural Sciences or Mathematics (3-4 hours)
