FIRE 1330 - Fire Prevention (VSCC)
Credit hours: 3
Prerequisites: Acceptable placement score or completion of all Learning Support competencies in Reading and Writing.
Course Description: Course provides fundamental knowledge relating to the field of fire prevention. Topics include: history and philosophy of fire prevention; organization and operation of a fire prevention bureau; use and application of codes and standards; plans review; fire inspections; fire and safety education; and fire investigation.
Student Learning Outcomes: Students will be able to:
- Explain the history and role of fire prevention.
- Discuss the various functions of a fire prevention bureau.
- Identify the laws, rules, codes, and other regulations relevant to fire prevention and the agencies or authority having jurisdiction.
- Describe inspection practices and procedures for code enforcement.
