HCMT 2320 - Healthcare Compliance
Credit hours: 3
Prerequisites: HCMT 2305 - Healthcare Delivery Systems and HCMT 2315 - Medical Legal Issues with a grade of “C” or higher.
Course Description: An intensive overview of healthcare compliance core elements and strategies for compliance plan development and implementation. It introduces key statutes, regulations, policy guidance, and enforcement initiatives that are the framework for developing a compliance plan. This course provides students with an in-depth exploration of the healthcare laws and regulations of particular concern to regulators.
Student Learning Outcomes: Students will be able to:
- Identify and explain the difference between healthcare fraud and abuse.
- Explain important fraud and abuse laws that pertain to healthcare.
- Describe an effective compliance program.
- Explain RAC’s, ZPIC’s, and MFCU’s.
- Define the importance of HIPAA, EMTALA, and CLIA and their importance to healthcare compliance.
