OTAP 1510 - Neuro Theory and Tx
Credit hours: 5 4 lecture hours, 3 lab hours
Prerequisites: Successful completion of OTAP 1110; ALH 118; OTAP 1210; OTAP 1220; OTAP 1320; and OTAP 1340 or permission of instructor
Course Description: The course provides an overview of the neurological system as it relates to occupational performance. Emphasis is placed on a holistic understanding of the impact of impairments on function and application of evidence-based principles of neurorehabilitation in the treatment of clients with neurological deficits.
Student Learning Outcomes: Students will be able to:
- Understand the effects of neurological deficits on the occupational performance of individuals
- Identify appropriate interventions to remediate or compensate for neurological impairments, maximize occupational performance, and address safety considerations for persons with neurological conditions
- Accurately administer and document findings of selected assessment and screening tools for sensory, motor, cognitive, perceptual, and balance functions
- Effectively use the teaching/learning process to provide skilled instruction
- Demonstrate ability to locate and cite evidence for effectiveness of OT intervention
