OTAP 1510 - Neuro Theory and Tx

Credit hours: 5 4 lecture hours, 3 lab hours

Prerequisites: Successful completion of OTAP 1110; ALH 118; OTAP 1210; OTAP 1220; OTAP 1320; and OTAP 1340 or permission of instructor

Course Description:
The course provides an overview of the neurological system as it relates to occupational performance. Emphasis is placed on a holistic understanding of the impact of impairments on function and application of evidence-based principles of neurorehabilitation in the treatment of clients with neurological deficits.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Students will be able to:

Understand the effects of neurological deficits on the occupational performance of individuals
Identify appropriate interventions to remediate or compensate for neurological impairments, maximize occupational performance, and address safety considerations for persons with neurological conditions
Accurately administer and document findings of selected assessment and screening tools for sensory, motor, cognitive, perceptual, and balance functions
Effectively use the teaching/learning process to provide skilled instruction
Demonstrate ability to locate and cite evidence for effectiveness of OT intervention
