AOTP 1320 - Instrument Rating Ground School
Credit hours: 3
Prerequisites: Student must hold FAA Private Pilot Certificate
Course Description: This course provides the classroom instruction required for instrument flight training and the FAA Instrument-Airplane Knowledge Test. Topics include flight by instrument reference, flight physiology, IFR aircraft operations and procedures, radio navigation, en route charts, instrument approach procedures, flight planning, weather, and IFR regulations. Students that complete the course satisfactorily may earn the required endorsement to take the FAA Instrument Rating Knowledge Test. Students are required to be enrolled in, or have completed, this course prior to beginning Instrument flight training.
Student Learning Outcomes: Students will be able to:
- Demonstrate an awareness of weather hazards to aviation and an understanding of how to avoid them.
- Demonstrate an understanding of Air Traffic Control Clearances and communications.
- Interpret enroute and terminal charts and approach plates.
- Explain lost communications emergency procedures under IFR.
