MPT 2030 - Preparing Animals for Slaughter

Course Description: The 50-hour course reviews techniques, checklists, and behaviors that meat processing technicians must master to provide the basic premise that animals must be able to behave naturally and be in a state of positive physical and psychological well-being prior to slaughter.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Students will understand and implement general transport techniques for pre-slaughter animals that limit activity, noise, and animal balking.
- Students will understand and demonstrate facility safety as it relates to pre-slaughter animals including unloading areas, holding pens, and stunning areas.
- Students will understand and demonstrate knowledge of animal enclosure and restraining systems.
