Course Description:
This course introduces the basic concepts of medical assisting The student develops essential skills required for the typical medical office in the areas of keyboarding, computer literacy, patient reception, appointment monitoring and scheduling, medical records preparation and maintenance, developing written correspondence, and mail processing. 

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to: 

 

  1. Students with little or no typing ability will learn the basics of computer keyboarding through class instruction and lessons presented with applicable software 

  1. Compose profession correspondence using electronic technology: Compose a professional business letter 

  1. Compose a professional email 

  1. Demonstrate professional telephone techniques 

  1. Document telephone messages 

  1. Using Electronic software manage appointment scheduling of an established patient 

  1. Using electronic software schedule a new patient 

  1. Create a new patient brochure 

  1. Establish an appointment matrix 

  1. Schedule a patient procedure 

  1. Perform an inventory of supplies 

  1. Prepare a purchase order 

  1. Create a patient Health Record, Register a New Patient in the Practice Management Software
