AHM 2010 - Electrocardiography

Course Description:
This course prepares students to administer EKGs for testing the electronic activity of the heart through small electrode patches attached to the body EKG technicians help people of all ages prevent and treat heart disease Students will learn how to set up and administer EKGs (electrocardiograms) and stress tests, prepare patients for Holter or ambulatory monitoring, edit and deliver final test results to physicians for analysis, and transcribe physicians’ interpretations 

Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Demonstrate knowledge of EKG machine mechanics 

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of accurate electrode placement 

  1. Demonstrate a solid understanding of normal and abnormal heart rhythms to identify any deviations in the EKG readings 

  1. Demonstrate physiological knowledge with a deep understanding of cardiac physiology aids in interpreting EKG results accurately 

  1. Show empathy and compassion for anxious or scared patients to provide comfort and build trust 

  1. Provide clear communication of the procedure to patients, address patient concerns, and provide instructions for effective patient care 

  1. Collaborate effectively with nurses, doctors, and other healthcare professionals 

  1. Provide accurate reports and documents regarding EKG results and maintain patient records for effective communication with the healthcare team 

  1. Respond effectively in emergency situations, often requiring quick thinking and adaptability 

  1. Troubleshoot issues swiftly and efficiently to maintain the flow of patient care
