Course Description:
This course will develop writing skills and career readiness. Topics include creating and developing resumes, cover letters, emails, professional correspondence, and reports. Topics also include professional skills such as time management, appearance and demeanor, etc. 

Student Learning Outcomes:
Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of: 
 

  • Use time management skills to be as productive as possible. 

  •  Understand the responsibility owed to the employer to be on time, productive, and professional in dress and behavior. 

  • Demonstrate an understanding of what constitutes good work ethics. 

  • Understand the importance of confidentiality on the job. 

  • Apply job search techniques, such as in person and online networking.  

  • Prepare a variety of employment communications. 

  • Demonstrate effective responses to common interview questions. 

  • Demonstrate good preparation activities for interviews. 

  • Demonstrate teamwork, using either face-to-face or collaborative technologies such as Zoom, web conferencing, and/or virtual technologies. 

  • Students will understand how attending college benefits them personally and professionally. 

  • Students will learn how to set long and short-term goals. 

  • Students will assess their learning and personality styles and how to maximize their learning.        

  •  Students will learn time management strategies, and how to use planning methods, such as calendars, planners, and to-do lists.    

 

Students will also be able to demonstrate knowledge of Business Writing, including: 
 

  • Punctuation and capitalization   

  • Developing skills in sentence parts/parts of speech, sentence structure, punctuation, spelling, developing ideas and organizing ideas.   

  • Vocabulary, writing style   

  • Describing words   

  • Persuasive writing   

  • Proofreading
