Course Description:
This course is designed to study the technological advances, practices, and procedures of the modern electronic office. The course will give students hands-on experience at entering data, practicing organizational skills, and navigating professional communication mechanisms used in today’s modern office. 

Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Learn computerized patient and insurer billing practices including the use of International Classification of Diseases codes.  

  1. Abstract clinical information for reports and perform basic coding to file electronic claims.  

  1. Apply basic insurance information common to all insurance carriers.  

  1. Transfer simple, moderate, and complex case histories onto insurance forms adhering with legal and regulatory requirements.  

  1. Process release of information request for medical records.  

  1. Collect patient demographic and insurance information.  

  1. Review patient records to ensure they are accurate and complete.  

  1. Understand administration of electronic health records including features and setup.
