Course Description:
This course provides students with the basic understanding of energy efficiency and its role in HVAC 

  

Student Learning Outcomes:
Safety  

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of HVAC related safety issues  

Inverter Technology 

  1. Understand the most recent laws and applications for high efficiency equipment in the HVAC industry 

  1. Understand inverter driven compressor operation 

  1. Have a basic understanding in troubleshooting Inverter and EC motors 

  1. Discuss applications in which Inverter and EC motors will be used and why 

  1. Discuss why electronic expansion valves are used  

Geothermal Systems 

  1. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of ground source heat 

  1. Have a basic understanding of the operation of a geothermal heat pump 

  1. Understand the basic differences of installation for air source and ground source heat pumps 

Water Heaters 

  1. Have basic knowledge of the different types of water heater operation 

  1. Understand the benefits of a heat pump water heater over other types. 

  1. Understand the advantages and disadvantages of tankless water heaters 

Smart Controls 

  1. Have a basic understanding of smart home technology 

  1. Discuss installation and service of smart thermostats 

  1. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of AI in HVAC
