IMA 1050 - Transformers

Clock Hours: 90

Delivery Mode
on-ground

Prerequisites: IMA 1040, Basic Electrical Theory

Course Description:
Provides instruction in the operation of single and three phase transformers and single phase and three phase power. Instruction is in transformer connections and power. Instruction is provided through class assignments, power points, lecture, demonstration and hands-on assignments.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Course Competencies:

  1. Define terms used in transformer operation and connections
  2. Solve transformer ratios and calculation problems.
  3. Identify step-up and step down transformers.
  4. Identify different types and sizes of single phase transformers.
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of single phase transformers by wiring a dual voltage input on primary and secondary side and calculating all voltages and checking voltages with a voltmeter.
  6. Identify wye, delta and open delta transformer connections.
  7. Recognize grounding on a transformer.
  8. Demonstrate knowledge of three phase transformers connections by wiring different transformer connections. Calculate voltage on primary and secondary s and checking voltages with a voltmeter.
