IMA 3031 - Hydraulic Devices and Controls

Clock Hours: 102

Delivery Mode
on-ground

Course Description:
Provides instruction for the devices used and control of devices in hydraulic systems. Students use software test and build hydraulic circuits before installing on trainers. Students learn to draw the schematics to install and troubleshoot hydraulic circuits. Instruction is provided through classroom lectures, software, videos, demonstrations, and hands-on experiments.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Identify the components of a hydraulic power unit and the installation process.

  1. Ability to identify and read the different types of gauges used in a hydraulic system.

  1. Operate pressure control vales in a hydraulic system.

  1. Design circuit to explain the working relationship between a pressure relief valve and a flow control valve.

  1. Operate different types of hydraulic actuators, motors and pumps used in a hydraulic system.

  1. Design, install, and operate hydraulic circuits using limit switches.

  1. Design, install, and operate a single acting cylinder using directional control valves, flow control valves and pressure control valves.

  1. Design, install, and operate a double acting cylinder using directional control valves, flow control valves and pressure control valves.

  1. Design, install, and operate a double acting cylinder using directional control valves, flow control valves, pilot operated check valve and pressure control valves.

  1. Design, install, and operate a double acting cylinder using DCV with an open center, flow control valves and pressure control valves to explain cylinder creep.

  1. Design a circuit to correct cylinder creep.

  1. Design, install, and operate a bi-directional hydraulic motor using directional control valves, flow control valves and pressure control valves.

  1. Design, install, and operate a circuit to explain a pressure compensated flow control valve.

  1. Design, install, and operate a double acting cylinder using directional control valves, flow control valves and pressure control valves to explain regeneration.

  1. Design, install, and operate a double acting cylinder using directional control valves, flow control valves and pressure control valves to pressure intensification.

  1. Design, install, and operate a double acting cylinder using directional control valves, flow control valves and pressure control valves to explain a counterbalance valve.

  1. Identify symbols for devices used in hydraulic circuits and explain their operation.
