IMG 2020 - Motors & Motor Control Systems
Clock Hours: 200
Prerequisites: IMG 2010 - Fluid Power
Course Description: The goal of the course is to teach the student how to operate, install, and troubleshoot motor control systems for various industrial applications using real-world components and schematics.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Perform a lockout/tagout procedure
- Describe electrical motors (i.e., single phase, three phase, squirrel cage, synchronous, etc.)
- Draw motor control circuits using ladder relay logic
- Learn and incorporate proper electrical symbols in circuits
- Incorporate different switches used in motor control circuits (Temperature, Proximity, Photo, etc.)
- Demonstrate the operation of different type sensors
- Develop a wiring diagram for single and three-phase motor starting
- Learn different starting methods for various size motors (across-the-line, resistor, delta-wye, auto-transformer, etc.)
- Learn different braking systems for various size motors
