Course Description: The goal of the course is to introduce the student to hydraulic power and safety, hydraulic circuits, hydraulic schematics, and principles of hydraulic pressure and flow that are used in industrial applications.

- Define Hydraulic Pressure and give the unit of measure.
- Describe the operation of a hydraulic power unit.
- Obtain and understand the knowledge of reading a hydraulic schematic.
- Describe the operation and function of Hydraulic components.
- Describe the function and operation of Directional Control Valves.
- Connect and operate a hydraulic system.
- Basic Hydraulic Circuits
- Describe the operation of a fixed displacement pump.
- Define flow rate.
- Describe the operation of a needle valve.
- Properly connect a needle valve to control speed of an actuator.
- Describe the operation and function of a hydraulic motor.
- Describe the schematic symbol of a Hydraulic motor.
- Hydraulic Pressure and Flow
- Describe how to calculate force output.
- Define Pascal’s law.
- Measure delta P.
- Explain how pressure is distributed in a hydraulic system.
- Learn and apply the operation and function of a relief valve, check valve, and flow control circuits.
- Learn the operation of meter-in and meter-out flow control circuits.
- Connect and operate a meter-in and meter-out flow control circuit.
- Define independent speed control.
