Course Description: This course provides an up-to-date introduction to all aspects of Programmable Logic Controller programming, installation, and maintenance procedures. This class covers the classifications, characteristics, and functions of industrial robots as well as basic safety precautions for working with robots. Course also introduces the student to industrial instrumentation. Focuses on controlling basic processes such as flow, pressure, level, and temperature. Students will understand the robotics hardware, which include a six-axis robot and robot controllers.
Student Learning Outcomes: Course Competencies:
A. Programmable Logic Controller
Students will:
- Draw and read PLC ladder diagrams
- Convert binary, BCD, and decimal numbers
- Install and configure I/O modules
- Connect input devices
- Connect output devices
- Program PLC
- Troubleshoot PLC
- Program PLC with personal computer
- Define processor unit, expansion unit, and EEPROM memory module
- Construct ladder diagram format
- Explain the need for safety considerations when operating/troubleshooting
B. Industrial Sensors
- Students will understand the operations of industrial sensors
