MEDI 1201 - Healthcare Vocabularies and Clinical Terminologies
Credit hours: 2
Course Description: An introduction to the concepts and syntax of relational database management systems. Topics include data modeling, database design concepts, tables and queries and other database objects using the tools provided in a relational DBMS.
Student Learning Outcomes: Students will be able to:
- Define the uses ICD-9-CM, ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS, ICD-11, CPT and HCPCS, ICD-O-3, SNOMED CT, LOINC, DSM, RxNorm, NDCs and CDT
- Describe ways in which vocabularies, terminologies, and classifications define data elements in a data set
- Describe and use data mapping principles and best practices for development of maps
- Explain the relationship between healthcare data interchange standards and vocabularies, terminologies, and classification systems
- Explain how vocabularies, terminologies, and classification systems work together in an electronic healthcare environmen
