Course Description: To provide the student with a synopsis of dental topics necessary for completion of qualifications for credentialing which are necessary in a dental assisting career.
Student Learning Outcomes: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to recall the dental topics necessary for completion of qualifications for credentialing which are necessary on the dental assisting career.
Students will be able to:
- Explain the provisions of the state dental act for dental assistants.
- Using appropriate terminology, describe the role of the dental assistant in general chairside assisting.
- Using appropriate terminology, describe the role of the dental assistant in specialty procedure.
- Recall dental materials, instruments, equipment and uses for each
- Recall terminology, principle functions and safety rules of dental radiography
- Discuss patient behavior and effects
- Recall body systems, their functions and the oral pathological conditions.
- Recite preventative dentistry measures used today to include coronal polishing, sealants and monitoring nitrous oxide.
- Act accordingly to a medical emergency
- Discuss and recall infection control procedures.
