FSED 1010 - History and Sociology of Funeral Service
Credit hours: 3
Prerequisites: Successful acceptance into the AAS/FSED program
Course Description: This course surveys funeral and burial customs associated with the beliefs and practices in various cultures from the early Egyptians to present day. In addition, the general principles related to customs, religions, human relations, social behavior, and their influence on funeral practices will be examined.
Student Learning Outcomes: Students will be able to:
- the historical relationship to present day funeral service practices and customs.
- the evolution of the funeral service profession and associated funeral service merchandise.
- the relevance of the funeral rites and customs of ancient cultures to the modern funeral service professional.
- the social implications of the funeral service profession.
