Course Description:
This course is an introduction to the livestock industry. Fundamental and essential concepts of livestock production, selection, breed identification, safety, livestock handling, and reproduction. Care and management of livestock will be covered.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:

Understand different diseases and their control and taking preventative measures through vaccination in livestock.
Understand the importance of safety and handling in relation to humans and also the concern for livestock.
Summarize reproductive objectives of livestock systems and identify reproductive anatomy.
Develop an understanding of animal species and breeds that comprise the livestock industry and their relative importance from economic prospective.
Develop a basic understanding of animal growth, nutrition, reproduction, behavior and genetics.
Become familiar with terminology used in animal science as it relates to the industry, management, equipment and animals.
