Program Description: The Computer Operating Systems, Networking and Cybersecurity program is designed to prepare students to apply technical knowledge and skills to assemble, install, operate, maintain, and repair computers and related instruments. Include instruction in power supplies, number systems, memory structure, buffers and registers, microprocessor design, peripheral equipment, programming, and networking. 

Program Outcomes:  At the completion of the diploma in Computer Operating Systems, Networking and Cybersecurity, 

graduates will be able to: 

  • Answer user inquiries regarding computer software or hardware operation to resolve problems. 

  • Answer telephone calls to assist computer users encountering problems. 

  • Operate spreadsheet programs and other types of programs to load and manipulate data to produce reports. 

  • Oversee the operation of computer hardware systems, including coordinating and scheduling the use of computer terminals and networks to ensure efficient use. 

  • Supervise and train peripheral equipment operators and computer operator trainees. 

  • Enter commands and observe system functioning to verify correct operations and detect errors. 

  • Inspect equipment and read order sheets to prepare for delivery to users. 

  • Install and perform minor repairs to hardware, software, or peripheral equipment, following design or installation specifications. 

  • Oversee the daily performance of computer systems. 

  • Prepare evaluations of software and hardware, and recommend improvements or upgrades. 

  • Read technical manuals, confer with users, or conduct computer diagnostics to investigate and resolve problems or to provide technical assistance and support. 

  • Set up equipment for employee use, performing or ensuring proper installation of cables, operating systems, or appropriate software. 

  • Analyze equipment performance records to determine the need for repair or replacement. 

  • Configure, monitor, and maintain email applications or virus protection software. 

  • Coordinate with vendors and with company personnel to facilitate purchases. 

  • Design, configure, and test computer hardware, networking software, and operating system software. 

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, or other network and system problems, and replace defective components when necessary. 

  • Maintain an inventory of parts for emergency repairs. 

  • Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments including computer hardware, systems software, application software, and all configurations. 

  • Monitor network performance to determine whether adjustments need to be made, and to determine where changes will need to be made in the future. 

  • Perform data backups and disaster recovery operations. 

  • Plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures to protect data, software, and hardware. 

  • Recommend changes to improve systems and network configurations, and determine hardware and software requirements related to such changes.
