NRSG 1600 - Transition to Professional Nursing
Credit hours: 6 (4 lecture; 2 clinical/lab)
Prerequisites: Program Admission
Course Description: Course is designed to assist the student in transitioning to the role of the professional nurse. This course is not transferable for meeting degree requirements.
Student Learning Outcomes: Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to meet the eight (8) core competencies as evidenced by:
- Professional Behavior: Demonstrate ethical, legal and regulatory frameworks of nursing and standards of professional nursing practice.
- Communication: Demonstrate effective communication including information and technology.
- Assessment: Demonstrate ability to collect subjective and objective data to identify actual or potential health alterations.
- Clinical Decision Making: Formulate clinical decisions to provide safe and effective evidenced-based nursing care.
- Caring Interventions: Demonstrate caring interventions that incorporate principles of dignity, diversity, safety and knowledge.
- Teaching and Learning: Develop an individualized teaching plan to meet the learning needs of patients, families, and/or groups.
- Collaboration: Collaborate when planning care.
- Managing Care: Use basic principles of managing care.
