MECH 1340 - Digital Fundamentals and PLCs

Course Description:
A study of basic digital logic and programmable logic controllers (PLCs) in a mechatronics system. Topics include basic PLC functions and testing; identification of malfunctioning PLCs; and troubleshooting techniques.

Student Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, students will demonstrate the ability to:

Analyze and describe the flow of information in a given mechatronic system or subsystem with a focus on the control function of PLCs in the system.
Analyze Boolean logic and logic gates and convert binary, hex, and BCD codes.
Write, debug, and run basic ladder logic programs.
Apply safety rules while working on the system.
