FOT 1024 - Ag Engineering Technology

Course Description:
This course introduces basic shop and equipment safety, common shop practices, and tool identification. Students will also gain proper knowledge of correct tool usage and types of fasteners as it pertains to farm maintenance and farm construction.

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  1. Identify general shop safety rules and procedures and demonstrate proper handling and care of tools and equipment.
  2. Utilize safe procedures for handling of tools and equipment.
  3. Understand the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and appropriate clothing during shop activities.
  4. Identify tools and their proper usage including standard and metric designation.
  5. Identify and understand the types and proper usage of fasteners.
  6. Identify, select, and operate hand and power tools used in agricultural construction.
  7. Understand the different tools and procedures involved in metalworking and the proper usage of each.
  8. Demonstrate the knowledge to properly plan and manage farm maintenance and construction projects.
  9. Use surveying methods to determine acreage and assist in drainage and irrigation systems. Also understand how to use GIS information to create field maps and geographic boundaries for land management.
  10. Identify the functions of operations of internal combustion engines and their differences. Compare fuel and energy sources for internal combustion engines
