Course Description:
The Ethics and Legal issues block on instruction will introduce the student to basic concepts of ethical behavior, values, and corrections theories. Further, the course reviews basic laws governing the maintenance of a democratic society and how criminal and constitutional laws meet the challenge of a democratic society.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  • Identify the career options available within the component agencies of the criminal justice system.
  • Analyze the steps of the criminal justice system process from crime reporting to corrections, parole and probation.
  • Differentiate between the various types of crime and methods used to report crime.
  • Understand ethics, discretion, and accountability in policing and corrections.
  • Distinguish between the various psychological, biological, and sociological causes of crime.
