Course Description: This course will focus on training in emergency situations in jails and prisons and best practices for handling those situations. Key industry certifications will be obtained by students as they progress through the course which will make them more marketable for employment in jails and correctional facilities.
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Define and analyze the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA)
- Demonstrate understanding and application with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
- Practice and receive certification in Basic First Aid and the appropriate response to medical emergencies.
- Practice and receive certification in CPR.
- Practice and receive certification in Mental Health First Aid (MHFA).
- Demonstrate an understanding of best practices in suicide prevention.
- Demonstrate an understanding of basic fire prevention and emergency fire procedures in a correctional setting.
- Practice and receive certification in dealing with bloodborne pathogens.
- Practice and receive training in Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders.
