MOA 2060 - Dosage and Calculations

Course Description:
This course provides the Medical Assistant student with review of common math functions to include division, multiplication, addition and subtraction.  Basic knowledge of converting decimals and conversions of both oral and parental medications to understand and properly dispense the correct dosage per physician’s orders. 

Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Summarize the important parts of a drug label 

  1. Define basic units of measurement in the metric and household systems 

  1. Convert among measurement systems 

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of basic math computations by calculating the correct dose amount 

  1. Calculate proper dosages of medication for administration while using mathematical computations 

  1. Determine accurate pediatric doses of medication 

  1. Demonstrate how to reconstitute powdered injectable medications 

  1. Prepare different parenteral medications in correct syringes
