ELS 1030 - Eye and Eyelash Anatomy and Physiology
Clock Hours: 8
Delivery Mode on-ground
Course Description: Eyelash and eyebrow services affect the orbital region of the head, a complex area home to two very sensitive organs of the body and central to human expression and communication. Knowledge of the structure and function of the eyes, eyelids, eyelashes, and eyebrows is critical to be able to protect the health of the eye while still performing beautiful, proportioned services. Eyelash technicians should have a thorough understanding of eye and eyelash anatomy and physiology because:
• The more technicians understand eye structure and function, the safer, better experiences they can provide for their clients.
• Failing to work with the client’s anatomy can have disastrous results, ranging from discomfort to blindness in the worst case.
• Eyelash services must be modified to fit the client’s eye shape and spacing. Lashes are not a one-size-fits-all service
• Successful eyelash services consider the hair growth cycle of eyelashes, protecting the growing lash and giving the best final look.
Student Learning Outcomes: Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of:
1.Explain why eyelash technicians need knowledge of eye and eyelash anatomy and physiology.
2. Describe the structures of the eye and their functions.
3. Identify eye and eyelid shapes.
4. Identify different spacings of the eye on the face.
5 Recognize the growth stages of eyelash hair.
