Course Description:
Demonstrate the ability to interview a pregnant client, understand their health issues, and perform pregnancy massage. Demonstrate the knowledge of how to teach, understand how things might go with infants in a massage setting, and the ability to teach infant massage to a parent. 
 
 

Student Learning Outcomes:
Demonstrate the ability to interview a pregnant client, understand their health issues, and perform pregnancy massage. (CSLO 19) 

  • Demonstrate the ability to tell the difference between a normal and high-risk pregnancy. 

  • Identify the issues of the client and implement a desired comfort level while on the table. 

  • Properly examine a pregnant client to be able to choose appropriate positioning. 

  • Demonstrate the ability to give a healthy pregnant client an appropriate massage. 

  • Demonstrate the ability to make a treatment plan for pregnancy massage. 

  • Demonstrate different draping for side-lying massage and semi-reclining massage. 

  • Understand and demonstrate specific interview questions relevant to the prenatal massage. 

  • Complete a SOAP note at the end of the treatment.

  • List benefits of infant massage. 

  • List cues from the infant that indicate readiness for massage and tolerance for massage. 

  • Demonstrate the ability to give an infant a massage to include: 

    • Feet and legs 
    • Stomach 
    • Arms and shoulders 
    • Back 
    • Head/Face (if the infant is cooperative) 
  • Demonstrate the ability to teach a mother how to massage her infant. 

  • Understand what lubricants are appropriate for use during infant massage.
