IMC 2020 - Intro to Fluid Power Systems

Clock Hours: 30

Delivery Mode
on-ground

Prerequisites: IMC 2010

Course Description:
This course provides a comprehensive introduction to fluid power systems and lubrication techniques, focusing on the fundamental components, applications, and maintenance practices essential for industrial environments. Topics include  fittings, hoses, and their applications, as well as the basics of dry air systems and specialized fluid power components such as FRLs, filtration systems, and accumulators. Students will learn how to evaluate hose fluid ratings, select appropriate fittings, and apply lubrication effectively. Through a combination of theory and hands-on exercises, this course equips students with the foundational knowledge and practical skills needed to ensure efficient and safe operation of fluid power and lubrication systems.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Understand and select fittings such as UNF, JIC, metric, and standard threads, and explain their purposes in fluid power systems.

  1. Identify hose types and sizes, evaluate fluid ratings based on hose ID and type, and understand flow rate, material usage, and plumbing pressure ratings.

  1. Understand the purpose, applications, and operational principles of dry air systems.

  1. Recognize and describe basic fluid power components such as FRLs (Filter, Regulator, Lubricator), air-over-oil systems, filtration units, and accumulators.
